Field First Responders are members of the public who volunteer to help their community by responding to medical emergencies. Volunteers are trained by the South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Trust in order that we can respond to medical emergencies received by the 999 system in our own communities before the arrival of an emergency ambulance or response vehicle.
In many cases, the team’s intervention can mean the difference between life and death.
In cases of cardiac arrest, a patient's heart literally stops - without defibrillation their chances of survival decreases by 10% for every minute that goes by. Community Responders are trained to use automatic defibrillators and can therefore provide this vital intervention.
Field First Responders do not replace the response from the Ambulance service we compliment the response you receive and try to reduce the time you wait for medical assistance.
Field First Responders rely entirely on Public donations to purchase all of their equipment. A basic response kit with a defibrillator costs in excess of £2000.
We are constantly looking to recruit new First Responders around Uckfield and the surrounding areas. Donations and Fundraising are also of paramount importance in order that we may continue our work. Please use the Contact Us link to get in touch
